Rosendal, located on the southern shore of the Hardangerfjorden, is the administrative centre of Kvinnherad municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. Especially known for the Barony Rosendal, a historic estate located in the village.
The Barony
Barony Rosendal is the smallest manorial estate in Scandinavia, built in 1665 for Ludvig Rosenkrantz and set beneath the Folgefonna mountains. The house, its renaissance rose garden and the surrounding park are open to visitors, and the estate holds concerts and exhibitions through the summer season.
Landscape
Behind the village the land climbs quickly to the Folgefonna glacier plateau, and waterfalls fall from the mountainside above the fjord. Marked paths lead to Hattebergsfossen, Malmangernuten and the Bondhusvatnet lake with its glacier-green water.
